Friends Who Garden

For more than 25 years, the Lake Houston Gardeners has provided a space to meet other people in the community who are interested in plants. We range in skill and knowledge from expert to just starting our gardening journey, and all ranges in between. Visitors and newcomers are always welcome at our meetings

Our Story

In 1989, three gardeners came together to discuss plants, landscapes, and various gardening topics in their living rooms. Over time, they began inviting more gardeners and friends, eventually establishing regular meetings at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood. They chose to meet in the evenings to accommodate their day jobs and allow men to join. Without any officers or elections, members contributed collectively to turn the small gathering into a large active group

Today, the Lake Houston Gardeners continue to operate similarly to those early days—with no officers or elections—relying on a collaborative approach to run the club. Each year, they hold a planning meeting and dinner to discuss upcoming programs and gather ideas from any interested members.

Meet The Committee

Suzzanne Chapman

Club Co-ordinator:Suzzanne leads meetings, arranges for speakers and communicates with other committee members. Suzzanne is retired from Mercer Botanic Gardene where she was the Curator of plants and volunteer coordinator.

Louise Spindler

Membership Co-ordinator and Treasurer: Louise maintains important behind the scenes records. She was one of the three original founders of Lake Houston Gardeners

Judy Brown and Diane Wolf

Refreshemnts and Hospitality: Judy and Diane communicate with different members every month to put on a delicious refreshment spread. They also plan the Holiday Party.

Denise Caruselle

Field Trips Director: Denise organizes our bus field trips to local nurseries and fabulous gardens. Trips are free by bus and always include lunch at a local eatery.

Anne Mullins and Denton Langridge

Technical Team: Anne and Denton do their best to insure AV is working at the meetings and the website is up to date.

Diana Cuaghell

Publicity: Diana publicizes events and maintains social media sites.
